Erling Haaland Thanks His Son After Scoring One of the Best Goals of His Career
Hesgoal Team 2 min readManchester City forward Erling Haaland spoke on the victory over Brentford in the seventh round of the Premier League. Not content with simply notching the winner, the Norwegian star bared his emotions, motivations and personal life in a heartfelt post-match statement.
Discussing his battle of wits with Brentford defender, Sepp van den Berg, Haaland said:
âHe was really coming after me in those first five minutes, so I started to say, âOkay, letâs fight.â I started pushing back too. âFor me, thatâs one of the best goals in my career.â
Haaland also said that he was not feeling âa hundred percentâ before the match but received some extra inspiration along the way:
âHonest, I felt a little tired (before kickoff) and it was going to be a difficult game,â keeper Steven Nigro said. But then, after 10 seconds, he started pushing me and that really got me going. I admire him a lot â I gave me more motivation to play even better.â
On his current form, Haaland insisted:
âI have never felt better in my life. I'm in the prime phase of my career. Itâs all about being prepared â physically and mentally prepared for every single match.â
Finally the Manchester City goal-machine opens about his personal life and how he altered his mental attitude after becoming a dad:
âHaving a child has really made me a better person and player, if Iâm being honest. Iâve learned to turn football off when Iâm home. Iâm not thinking about my matches 24/7 like I used to. I take it easy a lot more, and that allows me to perform at a higher level. So, I would like to thank my son.â
With this impassioned touchline interview, Erling Haaland not only toasted another significant Premier League win but also revealed a more human image â a father motivated by family, committed to greatness and determined to keep smashing records for Manchester City.
